Care for Puppies & Kittens in Laguna Woods, CA
It's an exciting day when you get to bring home a new puppy or kitten! This furry new family member has no choice but to make everyone who sees with them smile.
As thrilling as this is, there are also a handful of important health care matters to address during your new companion's first year of life.
Your vet will establish a health care plan that is customized to meet your puppy or kitten's specific requirements during their first year, and will also give you lots of guidance and support along the way!
Your Pet’s First Appointment
It's ideal for puppies to attend their first veterinary appointment when they are about six weeks old, and kittens roughly eight weeks.
At this initial visit, your furry friend will receive a full physical assessment to evaluate their overall health, check for signs of any congenital defects, as well as look for external parasites.
We will also provide them with deworming medications for roundworms and hookworms and give them their first round of puppy or kitten vaccinations.
More About Vaccines & Prevention
Finally, for kittens, we will conduct bloodwork to test for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus.
Followup Appointments
Puppies and kittens should visit their veterinarian 3 to 4 times between the ages of 6 and 16 weeks. These appointments allow our vets to assess your pet's overall health and administer vaccines on schedule.
